Mission Statement

The Catholic Women's League of Canada is a national organization rooted in Gospel values calling its members to holiness through service to the people of God.

"For God and Canada".

Our Patroness is Our Lady of Good Counsel.  There are four levels of the League:  national, provincial, diocesan and parish.

It is comprised of 11 provincial councils which include the territories and the military ordinariate.  Current membership nationally is 93,170.

The objectives of the League shall be to unite Catholic women in Canada:

  • to achieve individual and collective spiritual development
  • to promote the teachings of the Catholic church
  • to exemplify the Christian ideal in home and family life
  • to protect the sanctity of human life
  • to enhance the role of women in church and society
  • to recognize the human dignity of all people everywhere
  • to uphold and defend Christian education and values in the modern world
  • to contribute to the understand and growth of religious freedom, social justice and peace and harmony

Resolutions approved at diocesan/provincial/national conventions on issues of social justice and against our Christian values are presented by a League delegation to members of both provincial and federal government each year.

There are 15 parish councils in the Diocese of Victoria with a membership of 1,120.  The Cathedral council, formed in 1921, was the first council on Vancouver Island and has a long history of dedicated members who have stepped forward in "faith and action" serving the Cathedral parish and our communities providing both financial assistance and many volunteer hours.

As women of peace and hope, rooted in Gospel values, we extend a welcome to new members interested in joining us.

The Catholic Women's League (CWL) meets on the 2nd Wednesday of the month from September to June at 1:00 pm at the parish centre.  Membership is open to any Catholic woman over the age of 16.  Annual dues are $25.
