Encountering Christ

Dr. Patricia Rooke will facilitate this 13-week course on Tuesdays from 7 - 9 pm starting January 3, 2017 and concluding on April 25, 2017.  We will examine the Seven Sacraments of the Church in their scriptural context and historical development and, most importantly, their communal and personal meaning for Catholics. There is a limit of 30 participants and preference will be given to those students who have not previously attended these sessions either as a separate course or as part of Exploring the Catholic Faith.  The second hour will be devoted to small discussion groups of case studies with instructor and facilitator.    To register, please email Dr. Rooke at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or contact the parish office at 250-388-5571.  Cost is by donation to cover the printing expense of the handouts.

Discovery Faith Course Series

The very popular Discovery Faith Course is being offered again at St Andrews Cathedral for 6 weeks from Oct 27th. Classes will be on Thursday nights at 7pm at the Cathedral Parish Centre, 740 View Street. This course is free but donations are appreciated to cover the cost of the workbook ($10). Through this study people of all ages have come to see the relevance of God in a new and very real way for them personally, whether they are new to the faith or have been Catholic their entire life. For many the course brought a breath of new life and understanding into their faith.

This Discovery course is part of a 5 course series;

  1. Discovery – Building a relationship with Jesus and inviting Him into your life: Jesus is the indispensable, core message of the Christian faith.
  2. Source – Building a relationship with the Holy Spirit and understanding of the gifts and fruits: The Holy Spirit makes a difference in our faith life.
  3. Growth – Strengthening your prayer life: Essential elements for spiritual growth.
  4. Obedience – Living obedience to God in everyday life: Practical lessons on obedience, surrender, and trust in God.
  5. Commission – Living your faith: Motivation to spread the message and mission of Christ.

This series meets you right where you are in your faith walk.

If you want to register for the Discovery Course, or you have completed one or more of these courses and are interested in doing the next one, please contact Bernadette O’Connor by email  This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or phone 250-896-4136. It is necessary to do the courses in the order listed. If there is sufficient interest, we will look at facilitating one or two study groups at the same time as the Discovery course starting Oct 27th. However, confirmation of which courses will be offered will be subject to the number of people interested. So please call or email if you would like us to offer one of these faith studies.
