125th Anniversary

St Andrew's Cathedral has begun its 125th anniversary celebrations with special masses celebrated on Oct 29th & 30th for the Dedication of a Church. Our festivities will continue throughout the coming year which dovetails into the 150th Anniversary of Canada. Special liturgical and cultural events highlighting the architectural beauty, acoustical excellence, and historical and spiritual relevance of the Cathedral in our Victoria community will be on the calendar. Click on this link:  Concert Series Calendar for a snapshot of some of the concerts and events that are being planned for the next few months.

Mark your calendar and join us in the festivities of the Mother Church of our Diocese!

Alpha

St. Andrew's Cathedral is offering a 12-week course (Alpha) in which we will be exploring questions about life and faith.  The purpose of Alpha is to help those in attendance (through food, fellowship and formation) have an encounter with Jesus Christ.  Starting September 19th at 6:00 pm in the Seghers' Hall we will be exploring these most important questions or life together in a community of friendship. This is a great  course for those who have never really gone more deeply into their faith or also a great course to invite a friend to who has expressed interest in these questions.  Space is limited.  To register, please contact the parish office at 250-388-5571 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Bible Study

Starting Thursday, September 21, 2017, 9:30 am - 11:30 am in the parish centre we will be offering a 24-week study (with a break for Christmas) on the Gospel of Luke.  Most scholars conclude that Luke was of a gentile origin acquainted with Jewish history, culture and faith, so his perspective is unique and significant in Scripture.  It is interesting to note that 19 of Jesus' 35 parables are found only in Luke.

To register, please contact the parish office at 250-388-5571.  A donation of $7 to cover the cost of the materials would be appreciated.

"Our Last Stand" Movie Premiere

St. Andrew's Cathedral Refugee Committee is pleased to sponsor the Victoria premiere of Our Last Stand, which is a documentary by Jordan Allott and produced by In Altum Productions.  In Our Last Stand, Helma, an Assyrian-American school teacher from New York, spends her summer traveling to Iraq and Syria to help raise awareness about the plight of the Christian communities threatened by civil war and ISIS.

Helma’s journey takes her from refugee camps struggling to care for Christians who have fled ISIS in Northern Iraq, to the militias helping to defend and retake villages in the Nineveh Plain and Hassakah, Syria, to Helma’s family’s hometown of Qamishli in Northern Syria. During her trip, Helma uncovers both heart-breaking and inspiring stories of grief, despair, persecution, courage and hope as she discovers what it means to sacrifice for her faith and community.

This first-of-its-kind documentary will inform Westerners about the existence of ancient Christian communities in the Middle East, the threats they face and the crucial role these communities have played in their indigenous homeland. By building awareness, Our Last Stand will help viewers stand in solidarity with the persecuted and advocate on their behalf.

This film will be shown on Saturday, October 21st at the Cineplex Odeon Theatre (780 Yates Street), with one screening at 9:30 am and another at 10:00 am. A presentation by and Q & A with Jordan Allott, film producer, will follow both screenings.  Tickets are $5 (16+) and are available from the parish office.

For Young Adults

Are you between the ages of 24 - 36?  Then you're perfect for our resurrected Young Adults Group facilitated by Fr. Harrison Ayre.  Following the 5 pm Sunday Mass, we will meet each week in the parish centre for food, discussion and fellowship.  Our topics will be many and varied, but our primary purpose is to create a space for young adults of the Cathedral parish to make lasting friendships with other Catholics.
